Indifference, apathy – a state of complete indifference, disinterest.

It happens that after a strong stress associated with stressful situations, a person becomes indifferent when you do not want to do anything and all actions to reduce the influence of stress factors seem meaningless.

In a sense, such indifference is a protective reaction of the body. After a strong shock, which is accompanied by the expenditure of psychic energy, inhibition develops in the nervous system, during which the wasted energy is replenished. If this did not happen, people would quickly reach the nervous exhaustion, representing a threat to health and life. But at the same time, the state of indifference cannot be considered favorable, therefore, if it arose, it is desirable to get out of it quickly.

Harm of indifference

Despite the fact that indifference is not actually a negative emotion, the consequences of such a state are disastrous. Becoming indifferent to himself, a person stops in his development, does not set himself new goals and does not strive to achieve them. And since stagnation cannot be stable, it gradually leads to degradation.

Sometimes emotional emptiness after stress can be “cured” by rest, sometimes it is necessary to take more active measures.

Showing indifference to others, a person grows stale, loses the ability to empathize. “My hut is on the edge, I don’t know anything, ” is the motto of those in whom indifference has finally taken root.

Vigorous activity, working for days in order to achieve a certain goal is also stress. Indifference in this case can negate all the results.

If indifference becomes the result of stress caused by unpleasantness in professional activity, it often manifests itself in indifference to what had recently been the meaning of existence. Having experienced a strong shock, a person loses interest in work in general and in subsequent difficulties in particular. His hands are down, the desire to fight and find a solution is lost, and as a result, the problem can really turn into a real crisis. To avoid this, indifference should be overcome in yourself.

How to cope with indifference

There is a psychological technique that allows you to turn “it is necessary” to “want” and to awaken interest in certain things or activities that have not caused anything but boredom before. This technique is based on the paradox of backlash and, like homeopathy, uses the rule of “treat like like.”

From the contrary

There is a psychological technique that allows you to turn “it is necessary” to “want” and to awaken interest in certain things or activities that have not caused anything but boredom before. This technique is based on the paradox of backlash, and, like homeopathy, uses the “treat like like” rule.

Nothing motivates work like a few days of forced idleness.

So, to arouse interest in something, you must begin to convince yourself that it is not interesting. Constant failure took away the last forces? And you no longer want to look for any ways to solve new and new problems? Indeed, why do you need it? Every day to fight like a fish on ice, to wag one’s nerves … But you used to live without this “business” before, and you will live further. And how to live – without stress, without the hassle. Do not need anything. Spit on everything and not go anywhere tomorrow. Turn off the phone, sleep enough, eat normally … Solved! Finally, and irrevocably!

And as soon as you make a firm decision to “drop everything”, the psychological pendulum will definitely swing in the opposite direction. There are sure to find some cases that need to be “completed”, then the thought will come that you really have spent so much energy, time and money, then your intuition (by chance) will tell you a couple of possible options to overcome the crisis, and suddenly it turns out that once again you plunged into the usual cycle of events, and indifference didn’t happen.

Force yourself

In a state of indifference, not everyone is able to resort to psychological methods, if only because this too seems unnecessary. Apathy paralyzes the will, and if you succumb to it, you can eventually go into a real protracted depression. Therefore, in some cases, you just need to take yourself “by the collar” and through “I do not want”, despite the internal resistance, to force you to perform compulsory daily work.

Even if you are simply present at work, you will inevitably have to answer calls, help with advice, and complete assignments to guide.

Performing the usual actions, even if automatically, we still become involved in the process of common activity, and this encourages us and does not allow us to completely withdraw into ourselves. By joining a living workflow, unknowingly, a person gradually begins to show an increasing interest in his surroundings and throws off the shackles of indifference, returning to his formerly active state.

Interest in life

Interest is the opposite of indifference, so it is advisable to always try to cultivate it in yourself. Interest in what is happening allows for a more positive perception of events and in cases where things are going well, and to respond much more effectively to problems if they arise. Undying interest in life can negate the risk of indifference.

To maintain a constant interest in life, you do not need to invent something special, you just have to be content with very simple things.

Meeting with old friends, favorite hobby, openness in communication with people – all these factors create an inner sense of belonging to what is happening and support the desire to develop and learn new things.
