The 6 types of people you’ll see at a career booth

Every other day there are representatives from some company who have set up a booth at Solbjerg Plads trying to get students interested in their company. But, no matter how many times I go, or how many different companies I find out have exciting opportunities,I always see these six kinds of people around me going to the booths.

1.The one who is in it for the coffee

When he asks what the company has to offer what he really means is how much of the stuff on this table can I take without you getting mad at me. He’ll strike up small talk with anyone there for about as long as it takes for him to get the milk and sugar, after that his interest diminishes remarkably quickly.

2.The one who is not quite qualified

We have all been that guy at some point or another, just ‘doing research’ and hoping beyond hope that he can somehow pretend that his degree applies to whatever they’re hiring for. The bad news is he has a better chance of high-fiving a panda than getting the job. The good news is that he is making the rest of us look a lot better.

3.The outsider

Something isn’t quite right with this one. Every business student at CBS, has the right to be a little suspicious when they see jeans and a t-shirt. they look almost like they come from another university. Probably going to start asking questions about philosophy *cough* RUC *cough*.There’s nothing necessarily wrong with that, but we cannot abide by other schools trying to take jobs away from CBS’ers. This is why we need to build a border wall around Solberg Plads ASAP.

4.The one who knows everything

The guy who should actually be running the booth. He strikes up a really technical conversation with the company representative. He also just happens to have his resumé on him, and wants to talk for about as long as humanly possible. And I just happen to be stuck behind him.

5.The one who is trying to get away

He can’t quite remember why he started this conversation but he certainly regrets it now. The company rep. is trying to get his entire sales pitch out to this guy before he manages to find a break in the conversation long enough to get back to class. God help him.

6.The dreamer

He is either very polite or very lost

The guy is not close enough to actually talk to anyone at the stand, but he is just close enough for it to be awkward. He’s just standing there not moving closer or farther away. Is he waiting for someone? Is he building up his courage? Did he go on a spontaneous vision quest? We can’t know because he isn’t engaging in a conversation. He’s just standing, possibly listening, waiting…
